Dr. Karen Sangmeister

In her first career, Dr. Karen Sangmeister used her undergraduate Optics degree in a Fortune 500 company as a manufacturing and service engineer.  She changed careers, and served for over 30 years in education, as a teacher, school and district administrator, and adjunct college instructor.

In all of her work, she combines her ease with quantitative data with her curiosity about why the numbers work out as they do.  In a Big-5 New York State public school district, she worked for five years as part of a successful team recruiting and placing students in a School of Choice program that affected over 5,000 students annually.  She enjoyed making a very large system work for all parents, regardless of their education level, home language, disability, or even availability during regular work hours.  Because this work involved direct implementation of Board policy, she created many status and implementation reports during and after the actual work of the team.

Dr. Sangmeister served in both school and district administrative roles. In addition to Bachelor’s, Masters’, and Doctoral degrees, she holds permanent New York State certifications in Education (N-6), Mathematics Education (7-12), School Building Administrator and School District Administrator. She is the proud parent of a college grad, who is currently a Design Director of an international video game company. She continues to serve as an adjunct instructor at Nazareth College.
